For national freight, that is freight within New Zealand, anyone with the correct approved cage can book and organise travel – unlike international travel where you must be registered and approved as an export agent. To make a booking yourself…

+ you need the name, address and phone number of the person collecting the pet at the other end.

+ you need the gross weight of the pet in the crate – for under 20kg total weight it will cost $97.30 within an island and $170.30 between north and south islands. Over 20kg’s you need to add $5 per kg within an island or $8.80 per kg between the islands..

+ call Air New Zealand on 0800737737 and select option 1 for pet transport. Have your credit card handy and remember if you want the crate back you must pay the $35.80 return fee and it will come back to the nominated airport.

We like to help where we can with advice and crate hire (see these sections and our “questions answered”) but if you want someone else to do the leg work we will be happy to help. For delivery or pickup within the Christchurch suburban area our charge starts at $45.

Restrictions apply on early and late flights and on weekends otherwise flights can be booked as late as the morning of travel.
